Beyond the Classroom

At Braeburn Nanyuki we aim to ensure that we maximise opportunities for children ‘beyond the classroom’.  We believe that as well as enhancing their childhood experiences, this helps them to develop into well-rounded individuals with a wide range of skills that may be of use in their futures.


Sport, Music and Drama are important aspects of the school ethos, with Cricket, Rounders and Athletics in the First Term; Hockey and Swimming in the Second Term; and Netball, Rugby and Football in the Third Term. Cross country running, tennis, dance and gymnastics are some of the other valuable school activities which take place during Games and PE. These lessons are a vital and compulsory part of the overall school curriculum and all students are expected to participate.

Different Clubs and Activities are also offered to balance and broaden the children’s scope of learning, enabling them to develop their social, personal and emotional skills as they work collaboratively in mixed age groups. Popular Clubs and Activities include Scouts, cookery, Nature, Tae Kwondo, music, Arts & Crafts and more.

The school year generally sees a range of productions involving children across the school, providing them with opportunities to perform to a much larger audience. Each production involves two year groups and all children are given an opportunity to take part.

Assemblies take place each week providing different Year Groups with the opportunity to show case their learning, thus boosting the children’s confidence in the classroom. This time is also used to celebrate successes by recognising pupils’ achievements in that week. Parents, friends and visitors to Braeburn Nanyuki are invited to our Family Assemblies. We also hold Values Assemblies each week which provide vital input to support the development of our children social and emotional skills to help them develop into responsible citizens.

Theme days and weeks are held during the school year. During these, children experience unique aspects of a subject or an area of learning. Deep and relevant learning takes place and provides great opportunities for teachers, parents, staff and the community at large to be involved.

To provide a rich, broad, balanced curriculum, day and residential trips are essential elements of our broader curriculum. They help to integrate the studies in the classroom to the wider world, motivating our children’s desire to learn even more.
