2-Point Perspective and Boat Design

9th November 2023

The children in Year 7 and 8 have been working on 2-point perspective drawings of cityscapes, as well as looking into boat design.

They began by continuing some work carried over from last half term’s block of work on architecture where they create a 2-point perspective sketch of a busy city scene. Some fantastic examples of their work can be seen. The children were very enthusiastic about the work and proud of the final pieces they produced.

They have since moved on to look at boat design which is linked to our new block of work on “is everything connected?” The children began by thinking about the different uses for boats and how that might impact the aesthetics of the design. They then went onto using a technique to sketch boats from different perspectives using a figure 8. Some examples of their sketches can also be seen.

The children are now looking into boat design and thinking about how they would create their own small-scale boat using lolly sticks. They came up with some ideas for the purpose of their boat and how this might influence its design. They then had a go at drawing a plan of the boat in three different elevations and considered what other materials they would need for their project.

They are looking forward to making their boats and testing them out. There are plenty of open waterways that can be put to good use around the school grounds at the moment.
