As this article is being written, the Year 2 children are enjoying their well deserved school camp out. Here's a glimpse into the fantastic work that they have been getting on with this term.
In Maths, the focus has been on developing analytical skills through drawing and interpreting block diagrams. The students have enjoyed turning abstract numbers into visual representations, enhancing their understanding of data handling and mathematical concepts. Their enthusiasm for problem-solving and data analysis has been inspiring.
For our Design and Technology (DT) lessons, the children linked new knowledge about the compassionate work of Florence Nightingale with knitting skills to make woollen blankets. This project not only honed their crafting skills but also reinforced the value of caring for others.
Our writing lessons have been particularly interesting this term. The children explored various forms of writing, including poems and descriptive pieces. After learning about Nelson Mandela as a significant historical figure, they created posters to celebrate his legacy and preach the importance of diversity. Their thoughtful and creative work reflects a deep understanding of these important themes.
Our term featured a short Art Week focused on the works of Hokusai. The children worked on portraits of the artist and created patch pieces of the famous "The Great Wave off Kanagawa." In groups, they collaborated on fabric art projects and then, as a class, painted "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" on canvas. Additionally, the children wrote pieces of poetry inspired by the Great Wave, combining visual and literary art in a meaningful way.
