A love for Reading

9th November 2023

In early childhood, where curiosity knows no bounds and every experience is a stepping stone to growth, the role of reading emerges as the path to lifelong learning. In our Creche Class, we've been exploring a variety of books during our reading sessions, which the children have grown to cherish.

These sessions kick off with the children examining the book cover and reading the title with the guidance of their teacher. We then delve into discussions about what might be happening on the cover, using the pictures as prompts. Questions like "What can you see?" and "What do you think is happening?" are among the enquiries we delve into during the lesson.

With eager anticipation written all over their faces, the children eagerly respond, showcasing their unique perspectives. Through this process, the children cultivate their curiosity, a passion for reading, and the practice of reading together, which in turn nurtures a sense of security and fosters friendships.

In addition, this reading culture exposes the children to a diverse range of vocabulary that they incorporate when expressing themselves. The early introduction to the joy of reading instils a curiosity and thirst for knowledge that transcends the confines of early childhood, creating enthusiastic learners who derive immense joy from books.
