The Music department has had a hectic start to the second half of term. Year 1 and 2 are working diligently to prepare for their production, ‘The Mouse in Santa’s House’. A lot of singing and dancing has been done, with the staging already well underway.
Year 3 have embarked on learning about musical structure, using Food and Drink as the basis for studying rhythm. Who would have thought that singing about bananas and mangoes could make rhythm so engaging? Meanwhile, Year 4 areu exploring tone color by composing music that captures the essence of each season.
The Year 5 children are being introduced to musical structure through the music of Brahms, Liszt, Berio and Monterverdi. They are also learning to transfer a melodic line onto tuned percussion and accompany it with untuned percussion. Using everyday activities, they are learning to play melodic lines and sing in rounds, strengthening their pitching ability.
Year 7 and 8 choir have been preparing for the Brookhouse Choir Festival, the first time that one of our choirs will be attending the event. The challenge is to sing two songs in harmony, which they are happily rising to. They are looking forward to listening to other choirs, some more seasoned, and learning from them.
We are looking forward to completing these units, and building more on our Musical skills!
