EYFS have been immersed in the world of transport. Investigating how people in fairytales travel, what arrives on platforms and thinking about the age old car journey question: are we nearly there yet? Just before half term, the children had the opportunity to take a thrilling train ride from Nanyuki station to Naro Moru station. For many of the children and some staff too it was their first train voyage... but after the success had by all, we are sure it will not be their last!
There was a mix of excitement and curiosity from the children as we arrived at Nanyuki train station. The train stood tall and proud on the tracks, ready to whisk us away on an adventure; the loud whistle blew, announcing its imminent departure. We boarded our private carriage and took our seats.
As the train chugged along the tracks, the children gazed out of the windows transfixed by the beautiful scenery. As they did they took time to completed their picture hunt; circling things they could spot... it was an added delight when the children spied some zebras! The glorious weather made spotting Mount Kenya a breeze and we were treated to picturesque views the whole way. The children were able to manage their feelings well and there was a lot of communication and sharing going on. They enjoyed having their snacks on board too!
When the train gradually slowed down, gently stopping at the Naro Moru train station, the children wished they could have carried on with their train journey. We then boarded the BNIS buses back to school. The train ride was an unforgettable adventure filled with sights, sounds and new discoveries.
