All about that follow-through

3rd February 2023

In PE lessons this term, tennis has been the focus with many flying objects buzzing around the court. Timing, agility as well as improving fitness has been areas that we have been working hard on. The children started off with learning how to improve their racket control by doing some fun balancing exercises. They progressed to working on their footwork which is key to getting into position to hit that perfect shot.

Now they are working on improving their forehand and backhand techniques while playing everyone's favourite game ‘Jailbreak’. The children take it in turns to hit the ball over the net. If you miss the court or if you do not get it over the net you go to the other side and try to catch someone's ball, if you catch the ball then that person joins you on the other side.

In Games, there has been dribbling, pushing, slapping and hitting. It sounds very violent and rather unpleasant, but not to worry because it’s hockey season in Games. The children will be working on improving these skills as well as improving on their team-work. The children started with working on their stick work while doing a variety of dribbling techniques in small spaces. They have now moved to pushing, slapping and hitting the ball as well as learning the rules of the game through playing mini matches during their games sessions.
