9th September 2023
The final day of our ‘How to be a Lion’ themed fortnight ended on Friday 8th September with a pride of BNIS singers raising the roof of The Podo Theatre; conducted by Ms Mogaka, each year group sang different parts of The Lion Sleeps Tonight. With everyone dressed in yellow and orange hues it was a sight and sound to behold!
During the assembly we were also delighted to announce our new Y8 House Captains who introduced themselves with gusto. For their first formal day in the role, they all delighted in revealing that this week we have a three-way tie for the term so far. We look forward to watching them grow in these new leadership roles and for the exciting things they will instigate.
As learning surrounding our lion story came to a close, children reflected on an excellent start to the school year. It is clear everyone is now feeling more grounded and confident in their new surroundings and routines.
During the afternoon, FANs parent-volunteers busily beavered away in the school hall setting up the bottle tombola, laying out the wonderful array of home-baked cakes, brewing a lion punch and setting out the second-hand uniform sale.
Typically, as the school bell rang for the end of the day the heavens opened - our usual gratitude for rain was somewhat missing as this was not what we wanted for our first social event of the year! Despite the heavy downpour, many families still came to to the event it did not let it dampen their spirits. Before the rain got too heavy children released energy on the bouncy castle and let their creative juices flow in Mrs Bebbington's painting zone.
The tombola was a roaring success! Children and adults all enjoyed the thrill of choosing tickets to see if the had found a winning number and therefore bottle… did you win the champagne or come away with a tin of beans?
Thank you to all the FANs volunteers for their hard work, to BATUK for lending us the bouncy castle, to everyone who made cakes, to Kongonis for providing the delicious pizza and of course to all the parents who braved the rain and spent their hard-earned cash!
We are still tallying up our takings but we know we will be able to make a generous donation to the Ewaso Lion charity in Samburu who visited us last week and engaged all the children in a conservation workshop.
