An Action-Packed Year 1 Term!

13th June 2026

What a fantastic, action-packed term it has been in Year 1! The children have been enthusiastic learners, diving into new topics with curiosity and joy. Here is a glimpse into the fun and learning we have experienced together:

In Science, we have become experts on weather and seasons! The children loved the hands-on activity of dressing dolls in appropriate clothing for different types of weather. To understand wind, we crafted our own wind vanes, which the children enjoyed using to track the direction of the wind outside. Following our classroom learning on how to classify animals into categories, we took our learning on the road! The children loved our field trip to see animals in real life, with a special highlight being the opportunity to see a blind rhino, which sparked wonderful discussions about animal conservation and senses.

In Maths, we have been exploring time! The children are learning to tell time to the hour (o’clock) using miniature clocks. To make it more fun, they used playdough and natural resources like twigs to construct the hands of the clock.

In English, the children have been learning how to write a diary entry. They are doing a wonderful job learning how to recount their days and capturing their daily thoughts and adventures on paper. To help keep this momentum going, please encourage your child to practice writing in a diary every single day. It doesn't need to be long, just two or three sentences about their favorite part of the day, what they ate, or how they are feeling is perfect! This daily practice does wonders for their spelling, handwriting, and confidence.
