Ancient Greek Celebration

25th April 2024

The Year 3s and 4s concluded their learning about Ancient Greeks at the end of last term with an Ancient Greece-themed celebration.

We began with an Olympic-style opening ceremony, where all the children wore chitons or tunics, as well as the laurel wreaths and sandals we had made in Art and DT lessons, with many also carrying the Olympic torches we had made. Some suitably symbolic music further helped set the stage for the events to come.

We then moved on to a range of fun activities. Probably the most amusing of these were having to use a spatula to collect cotton wool balls while blindfolded, feeding yoghurt to someone without being able to see their face, and a water race where the children had to pour water into the cups of people waiting behind them - suffice to say, there were many dirty and wet children by break time!

We finished off our celebration with an Ancient Greek feast. The children had made a mix of foods including tzatziki, hummus, Greek salad, ancient Greek pizza, almond sugar biscuits and Greek pancakes, which they then enjoyed together.

All in all, it was a fun and engaging way to conclude a topic that the children had thoroughly enjoyed.
