FS2s are on a journey around the world! To guide us on this adventure, we have immersed ourselves in the story of "Mr. Gumpy's Outing." Each week, Mr. Gumpy travels to a different country to partake in a festival and invites an animal native to that country onto his boat.
Mr Gumpy’s first journey was to Nepal where the Dashain festival was happening last week. The children made kites and had fun flying them on the big field. They found out some exciting facts about Asian elephants and the unique Nepalese flag. An elephant has joined Mr Gumpy on his boat where he was warned not to trumpet.
This week Mr Gumpy has travelled across the Indian Ocean into the Atlantic Ocean and all the way to the UK where Halloween is happening. At school, we celebrated Halloween with the children showcasing some tricks in exchange for treats (pieces of fruit) in class groups. The performances included impressive balancing acts, playful magic tricks, humorous jokes, a song, and some hula hoop fun. Mr. Gumpy encountered a red squirrel in the UK, who will also be joining him on his journey.
Mr. Gumpy is eager to explore India and experience the Diwali festival, as well as Japan, where Shichi-Go-San will be celebrated. Then, he plans to head to America for Thanksgiving and lastly return to Kenya for Christmas. The children are left wondering who he will encounter to accompany him on his boat and hoping that it will not capsize with all the extra passengers!
As you can see a festival feast of learning is happening in FS2 encompassing all the Areas of Learning.
