Brushing Into Art

20th March 2025

Our Year 3 artists have been exploring watercolour landscapes, starting with a simple painting to express themselves before learning new techniques. They experimented with different methods, such as blotting, paint bleeding, and using wet and dry brushes to create various effects. They also learned how to begin with a colour wash and select the right background colours to enhance their artwork.

For inspiration, they studied Joseph Turner, known as "the painter of light," and explored how he used light to create atmosphere. Applying these ideas, they worked on their own landscapes, focusing on light and choosing focal points in different areas of their paintings.

Most recently, the children studied the landscape paintings of Kenyan artist Joseph Thoingo. They learned about his unique style and experimented with his techniques, adding a local touch to their watercolour pieces.
