Busy Busy Year 2

2nd December 2021

What a whirlwind the end of term has been for the Year 2s!

English has been a subject where we have seen great improvement this term by all our learners. They are now able to write independently, putting creative thought into their work, making use of describing words such as adjectives and even including some similes. We have been working with a short story called “Alfie’s Star”, where a star tumbles down from the sky to help some animals in need. The children have been coming up with their own animals that need help from this amazing star, including dragons and ponies, who use this star to warm their eggs and help their young find their way home.

Children have included a little bit of drama into their learning this second half of term, finding out more about the Gunpowder Plot in History. The learners have taken on the roles of the plotters and the King in order to act out the hiding of the gunpowder and the discovery of Guy Fawkes and the barrels due to the sending of an anonymous warning letter.

Last week saw the Year 2s take part in Bike Day on Thursday. Most of the children brought in their own bicycles and tore up the bike track at the end of the field, while others took to the basketball court and zoomed around on the flat surface. Even though some children did not bring a bike, it didn’t stop them from having a turn as their peers exhibited wonderful kindness to them by allowing their friends a turn on their bikes. The children pumped their legs over the ramp and dirt piles, showing us exactly how to get moving early on a Thursday morning. On Friday, everyone got to take part in Family Fun Friday.

Of course, the highlight of the last few weeks of school has been the Year 1 and 2 Nativity Play that they have been performing this week. Each child has worked extremely hard to learn their lines, as well as the words and actions to the songs. Some children even needed to remember where to stand on stage as they moved around during the course of the play. They all looked wonderful in their costumes and sang loudly and proudly during their three performances to Early Years, the whole school and their grown ups. The patience and perseverance the children have had to display over these last few weeks has been a lot for them to handle, but they have managed to put on a top notch performance and made themselves as well as their teachers very proud. Bravo, Year 2s!
