Celebrations and Festivals

30th October 2025

What an exciting start to our new topic in FS2, Celebrations and Festivals! The children have been travelling the world with Mr Gumpy on his amazing journey, visiting a different country each week and meeting new animal friends who hop onto his boat!

Last week, Mr Gumpy sailed all the way to India, just in time to celebrate Diwali – the Festival of Lights. The children learnt about this special celebration and made some lovely lanterns. A tiger joined Mr Gumpy’s boat and was told not to roar!

This week, Mr Gumpy’s journey took him to South Africa, where he discovered the Kite Festival in Cape Town. We were so lucky to have one of our parents visit the class to tell us all about this colourful festival and help the children make their very own kites! Everyone had so much fun flying them and watching them dance in the wind. Mr Gumpy even met a penguin, who was warned not to waddle about.

During water play this week, the children explored Guy Fawkes Night by creating pretend bonfires and working together to “put out the fire.” It was a wonderful way to learn through play and teamwork.

What a fantastic journey it has been so far! The children are loving travelling with Mr Gumpy, meeting new animal friends, and discovering how people celebrate around the world. Ask your child where Mr Gumpy might go next.
