We are thrilled to share that we are once again taking part in the prestigious COBIS Poetry Competition, an annual event that encourages young writers across the globe to express their creativity and love for words. This year’s theme, Magical Moments, inspired our budding poets from Year 1 through Year 8 to reflect and write about the little sparks of wonder in everyday life.
The competition rules allow each school to enter just one poem in each age category – one for Years 1-6 and one for Years 7-8 – which made choosing our final entrants no easy task! Staff were delighted by the talent shown, with Tito, Tatiana, Minahil, and Augustine each submitting thoughtful and imaginative poems.
After much deliberation, we are proud to announce that Affie has been chosen to represent Years 1-6, and Liam will represent Years 7-8. Congratulations to Affie and Liam for their outstanding work, and a huge well done to all our participants! Each poem was a joy to read and a testament to the wonderful creativity within our school.
I saw a genet in a big hole
I rescued it with a big pole
It lives in my garden up a tree
He's camouflaged so hard to see.
Everywhere that people live,
Special moments can be found
Shared joy and laughter, celebration
Make the world go round.
The glint and gleam of a young child’s eye
As they bite into a Christmas pie.
The sound of laughter, loud and clear,
Falling upon an adult’s ear.
The taste of birthday party cake
Shared with friends during morning break.
The excitement of Chinese New Year,
Celebrated there and here.
The glow of Diwali candlelight,
Glimmering, dancing, swaying bright.
A wild whoop in a children’s game
There isn’t a thing that sounds the same.
Magic doesn’t exist, they say
But it’s quite plain to see
There is a simple form of it
Inside both you and me.
