Bonjour! The Year 6s have been exploring the world, looking at the different countries and nationalities. They experienced great adventures and displayed immense curiosity as they hopped from one country to the other, investigating their various cultures. They enjoyed learning how to name the countries and nationalities in French. They were particularly excited as they sang songs from the different countries as a way of enhancing better comprehension of pronunciation.
An important phrase we learnt was, “Ou habites tu?” (Where do you live?) “Habiter” was a helpful verb they learnt which translates to “to live”, it helped state where they live as they named various buildings. The children had to use certain places around our beautiful town like “des lotissements”, which translates to “estates”. Can you guess what “un apartement” is? I bet you got it right! These types of words are called cognates; words that hold the same meaning in different languages though their pronunciations may be different.
The Year 4 children on the other hand, have been exploring descriptions of themselves and others using adjectives. They took great pride in taking turns to describe different pictures and enjoyed the group activities where they worked out what different adjectives are in French and matched them to their English translation. They then worked through describing images of an array of people with different physical appearances. Teamwork is a great avenue to teach problem solving skills, leadership and listening skills. They were fully engaged and actively participated on tasks posted on the whiteboard to further enhance their confidence. The children are becoming real mademoiselles and monsieurs. Bon chance with the rest of the term!
