Cool, Calm and Quick in the Water

11th February 2022

Last week the BNIS Swim Team travelled down to Nairobi to take part in the Inter-Braeburn Swimming Gala.

The team of 18 swimmers made the long journey to Braeside on Friday morning, arriving at around 1pm just in time to get changed and ready for the first day of events.

On Friday the gala started with backstroke, breaststroke and the freestyle relay. On the first day, team BNIS managed to get an amazing 7 medals. Jasper and Sasha demonstrated their amazing technique and won silver medals in breaststroke. Thomas and Jade also had strong races and both won bronzes medal in breaststroke. Jade showed her stamina and received a second silver medal in backstroke - a fantastic achievement! In the boys race, Billy stormed ahead, winning a gold medal in backstroke. Our U13 Girls freestyle relay team also demonstrated their excellence taking silver!

On Saturday the team woke up early, ready for another busy day of swimming ahead. The team managed to rack up another 7 medals on day 2. Jasper, Isla and Billy won silver medals in freestyle, while Henny wowed us with her Freestyle and took first place, gaining another gold for team BNIS. Henny also managed to win a bronze medal in the individual medley. Our U13 Girls once again gave it their all during the medley relay and took home a bronze medal.

After weeks of training and honing their strokes, the teams hard work certainly paid off. Well done to all our swimmers! It was a joy to see Mrs Gould hand out the plethora of medals during assembly. Thank you to our swim coaches for preparing our swimmers so well and being on hand during the gala to provide support!
