Cross Country

20th May 2023

Last Saturday we proudly hosted the KAISSO cross country at Tambuzi Farm in Burguret for the second year. We were joined by 6 other schools from across Kenya to compete in three different age categories - Under 9, Under 11 and under 13. Each school brought a team that had three girls and three boys in each age category making total school teams of 18 children. Braeburn Nanyuki staff were out in force acting as marshalls around the course, to ensure no child took a wrong turn and ended up in one of Tambuzi’s beautiful rose houses!

With the sun shining, Mrs Gould enthusiastically commentating on the microphone and everyone warmed up, the children set off for the start line! Spectators gathered at the finished line to cheer their teams to victory creating an electric atmosphere.

We started with our youngest competitors who blew us away with their speed! Then followed the U11’s who had a few dramatic photo finishes created by admirable bursts of energy propelling them to the line. We were delighted when our very own Adrian dashed across the line in 3rd place! In the girls race BNIS’ Nora came charging for the finish line closing the gap on the girl in front, the home crowd went wild and Nora secured 2nd place. She was followed by Ava who made us all proud coming in in 3rd place. In true BNIS spirit Alana had stopped during the race to help another girl who had fallen over, an exemplary display of true sportsmanship.

The U13 races didn’t disappoint either, in the boys race the crowd was huddled at the finish line peering down past the bushes and round the corner, when BNIS’ George came gliding into view. He was well ahead of the competition and easily cruised over the finish line in 1st place.

We are extremely proud of the whole of Team BNIS who all crossed the line in style and ran their best, even when running in the category above their age!

We would like to thank Maggie and Tim Hobbs (Ex-BNIS parents) for generously allowing us to host this epic event on their farm, it provided the perfect setting and terrain for this event.
