Curtains Up

29th June 2023

Last week was an exciting week for all of the children, but especially the Year 3s and 4s, as it was the week they presented their play, “Who’s Your Mummy”, to the school and their parents. The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as the talented young performers took to the stage, showcasing their remarkable acting prowess, musical talents and dance moves that left the audience grooving along and clapping at the end of every act.

The audience was immersed in the world of Ancient Egypt, helped by the beautiful backdrop (a massive thank you once again to Mrs Bebbington), the props and obviously, the wonderful costumes (thanks to Delia Rosgado- Douriet). From the auditions to the final curtain call, every step of the process was infused with enthusiasm, teamwork and a commitment to making this a show stopping play - mission accomplished.

"Who's Your Mummy" whisked us away to the mystical land of pyramids, pharaohs and the dazzling City of London. The Year 3 and 4 children brought the story to life with their remarkable performances, the children had plenty of lines to learn, delivering them with confidence, getting quite a few giggles from the audience with the witty dialogue. The play included beautiful solo performances from the Pharaoh and his bride and, what is a BNIS play without epic dance moves - there were many of those! The young actors effortlessly embraced their roles, delivering their lines with confidence and charisma. Their expressions and gestures perfectly captured the essence of each character, leaving no doubt that they had invested their hearts and souls into their performances.

Beyond the dazzling performance, "Who's Your Mummy" served as an excellent educational opportunity for the children. Through their involvement in the play, they gained a deeper understanding of ancient civilisations, exploring historical themes. Through this experience, the children have also gained valuable life skills: working on their confidence by standing on stage and doing their best as well as teamwork and creativity.

To end the week, the children were treated to an unforgettable Egyptian party - extremely well deserved. The little actors enjoyed an array of authentic Egyptian cuisine, even including the favourite drink of Egyptians... beer (non-alcoholic of course) with Ancient Egyptian music playing in the background, allowing the children to truly immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the Nile. The children played some team-building games and provided an opportunity for them to celebrate each other's accomplishments, tireless efforts and countless hours invested in making the play a resounding success were recognised and appreciated. Way to go, Year 3s and 4s, an excellent way to end off the school year!
