Children in Year 7 and 8 have been diving deep into the fascinating world of design - particularly in relation to product packaging. They are exploring the five crucial stages of the design process: Research, Ideation, Prototyping, Testing, and Refinement. So far, they have completed the Research and Ideation stages, and they have shown great understanding of why carrying out these stages is of utmost importance.
Research: The adventure began with thorough research. Children engaged in various activities to gather information about their target users and market needs. They conducted surveys, interviews, and extensive online research to understand the preferences and pain points of potential users. This foundational work is crucial for creating relevant and effective packaging designs.
Ideation: Armed with a wealth of information from their research, the children moved on to the ideation phase. This stage was all about creativity and brainstorming. Our young designers sketched numerous ideas, discussed possibilities, and shared their visions with classmates. The ideation sessions were filled with energy and innovative thinking, resulting in a diverse array of potential packaging concepts.
In the coming weeks, children will transition to the next stages: Prototyping, Testing, and Refinement. They will bring their best ideas to life by creating prototypes, testing them in real-world scenarios, and refining their designs based on feedback.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work so far. They are developing essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, all while having fun and learning collaboratively. We can’t wait to see how their projects evolve in the next phases.
