From Drawing to Baking

16th October 2020

In Year 6, 7 & 8, we started by looking at the basics of line drawings, focusing on how to add texture and depth to a pencil sketch. The children created some very good drawings using different mediums; particularly impressive were their coffee and stick drawings. The work ended with the children creating their own versions of Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Bedroom in Arles’. Their use of vanishing points and colour was excellent.

Within Design Technology, we looked at the stages needed for a successful design. Including how to create isometric drawings with measurements. This stage really helped the children when they went on to build their own outdoor Bug Hotels. It was wonderful to see their creations and also to hear their confidence when showcasing their creations to others via a google meet.

The half term ended with a baking project, again the children demonstrated their talent and creativity in abundance. Students designed imaginative flavour combinations such as an orange peel, flaked almond and chia seed loaf to name just one.

We are now looking forward to returning to school and continuing with our creative endeavours on a larger scale.
