Environmental Poets

18th June 2021

This year, the children of BNIS marked World Environment Day by writing poems themed around the environment. The 2021 focus for this important day was Ecostystem Restoration - Reimagine, Recreate and Restore. The children across the school were challenged to write a poem that encapsulated this. Discussions in class and research online led many children to think about plants and how key they are. We were astounded with how many poems were entered into the competition and it took some time to read them all. The staff team then had an opportunity to vote for their favourite from a shortlist. The competition was judged in four age groups - Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4, Years 5 & 6 and Years 7 & 8 - and was an incredibly hard job to do . Everyone who entered did a great job but, there can always only be one winner. Our four Highly Commended entries received a podo tree sapling to plant and the winners received a notebook to continue their poetry writing as well as a jar full of seed balls. The winning entries can be seen below - enjoy!
