29th October 2021
Year 8 have begun examining the many disputed causes of World War 1. They created a range of excellent informational posters based on the three long term causes, from Alliances to The Naval Race. They then looked at what many see as the pivotal cause, studying the role of the Serbian organisation ‘The Black Hand’ in the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie in 1914.
We will go on to look at life as a World War 1 Soldier as well as studying the East African Campaign and the battle at Taita Taveta in Kenya as well as the more famous battles that occurred on the Western Front. As we approach Remembrance Day in two weeks time, the whole school will be looking to commemorate the day with an installation of handmade poppies by the children.
In Geography, Year 7 have been exploring the topic of International Development. They have looked at different indicators that are used to measure development and at a composite indicator called Human Development Index (HDI). Everyone was keen to look at world rankings and to see where Kenya stands.
This weekend marks the start of the 26th 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) that is taking place in Glasgow, UK. The children will be following this closely to see how World Leaders and experts are planning to tackle the climate crisis and to see how intricately linked environmental development is to a country's overall development.
