In this block of learning, Year 7 and 8 have focussed on understanding connections in our world. We embarked on an exciting journey, starting with the family unit as our basic connection unit (jamii Yangu). Through engaging activities and discussions, we delved into diverse family structures(muundo wa familia), fostering an appreciation for the unique bonds that unite us.
We learnt various term in swahili to enrich our Kiwashili proficiency such as;
We explored the use of Kiswahili possessive pronouns to express ourselves during conversations while engaging in role-playing during class presentations. Incorporating these possessive pronouns enhanced the accuracy and cultural richness of our communication. Take a look at what we learnt;
As part of this exploration, we looked at different forms of communication(Mawasiliano) especially on social media platforms, popular among this being WhatsApp and Snapchat. We also uncovered the richness of verbal, written, and technological means that connect us across distances. From traditional letters ( Barua) to modern-day video calls, our young learners discovered the beauty of staying connected and sharing stories with loved ones, near or far. All these was to explore different ways of keeping in touch with the family members who we do not see or interact with as often.
We also looked into the world of transportation, and explored different forms of transport, Usafiri which sparked creativity as we imagined journeys to new and exciting destinations.
In an exciting culmination of our discoveries, our children are channelling their newfound knowledge into creating picture books “vitabu vya picha”.
These unique creations beautifully intertwine the concepts of family, communication, and transport, weaving together colourful narratives that celebrate the connections we've explored throughout this enriching learning block.
