Feeling Festive in Creche

1st December 2022

Festivals and celebrations around the world has been the learning focus this half of term in Creche. We started with Diwali, learning about what it is, why and how it is celebrated. The children then welcomed a parent who came to talk about it and did an activity with them. The children were excited to learn that lights and beautiful Rangoli patterns are put near entrances to welcome the Lord Rama home and also to celebrate the triumphant defeat of the evil spirit Ravana.

We then looked at Halloween night. To celebrate this event, we made happy pumpkin faces by painting a picture of a pumpkin and adding details to it to make sure it was indeed a happy pumpkin. The children also made fire-crackers by using different cutout shapes and sticking them onto a piece of paper. It was an exciting activity for the children.

We are winding up the topic by looking at Christmas and who celebrates it, why and how it is celebrated. Who does Santa visit ? Why do people write to Santa asking for what they would like to find under the tree on Christmas morning? Have we been good listeners and doers? Are we looking forward to the New Year? These are some of the questions that we will answer before we close for the December holiday.

It has been an exciting second half of term in Creche and we are looking forward to an eventful and fun-filled second term.
