Friction in Year 3!

22nd January 2021

Contrary to the title, there has actually been little resistance towards completing our classwork, and no animosity among our peers. The friction we have been learning about is Scientific. Friction is a force that resists the sliding or rolling of one solid object over another. Here is what some Year 3 students would like to share with you all:

“We tested different surfaces by lifting it centimetre by centimetre and seeing at which point a toy car would start to roll. The cars rolled down each surface between 1cm to 5cm.” - Liam

“If you have too much friction, like with sandpaper, the car won't move until it is really high (gradient). It’s also like if you are on a slide and there is too much friction, you won’t be able to slide down” - Tyler

“If there is only a little bit of friction, the car will roll down a lot faster” - Ismael.
