The first half of the term for Year 2 students has been filled with captivating experiences. The children kicked off their journey with collaborative activities designed to ignite their creativity; they worked together to construct 3D homes and structures, such as a marble run, a high wall, a bridge, and a house, just to mention a few.
The emphasis on teamwork has led to remarkable outcomes. The theme of exploring habitats worldwide has captured the children's imagination, mainly as they delved into research and documented their findings through triaramas. Their presentations during our Year 2 Assembly were truly impressive.
In Science, the children explored animal survival in different habitats, discovering microhabitats around the school and collecting data on the animals living there. They represented their findings using pictograms. Their learning continued with an exciting game drive at Solio Wildlife Conservancy, where they observed habitats, studied wildlife, and enjoyed outdoor activities with wild animals.
In English, the children learned how to write animal reports by first internalising a model text. They enthusiastically contributed creative ideas and descriptive phrases to develop a class version. Building on this, they confidently created their own mythical creatures, demonstrating their creativity and descriptive writing skills.
The Maths lessons have been very engaging indeed! The children have delved into deepening the number system up to 100, learning place value, and using manipulatives to add and subtract numbers. They have also been honing their skills in counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. They collaborated on tasks involving estimation and measurement using a variety of equipment.
We also studied the Maasai culture when exploring National Parks and Game reserves and the activities in these protected areas. The children were inspired to create necklaces using beads.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all Year 2 parents for their tremendous support in guiding their children through the creation of these remarkable dioramas. Your involvement in your children's education is greatly appreciated!
