Geometry & Art Marvels

25th January 2024

The Year 2 team is thrilled to share their learning this week.

In Maths, the Year 2 children have embarked on an exploration into the world of 2D and 3D shapes. They rotated and moved 3D shapes with their hands in order to properly understand the different features of the shapes. They deepened this understanding by building 3D shapes using playdough and straws. The classrooms became a creative workshop where geometric concepts came alive.

Creativity has been flourishing in our Art lessons as the children get inspired by the renowned artist William Morris. They have been busy creating beautiful print blocks and then using these to create repeat patterns on paper. Unsuprisingly, the chance to create unique pieces was loved by many.

'How can we make sure that our bodies are as healthy as can be?' is the question of the half term. Geography came alive in our recent research lesson on the types of fruits and vegetables that grow in Kenya. Students used iPads to find out where they are grown, how long they take to grow and their nutritional values. They gained valuable insights into the country's agricultural landscape while comparing small scale and large scale farming. Next week they will be going on a trip to see this all in action!
