Green Team Training

20th June 2026

This term, 13 passionate students from Year 4, 5, and 7 put themselves forward to lead the charge in making our school more environmentally friendly, sustainable, and forward-thinking. This officially kicked off this week with a two-hour training session from Mr Wandabi from Kenya Organisation Of Environmental Education (KOEE).

Mr. Wandabi brought knowledge and inspiration, guiding our 13 student leaders through practical ways to identify areas for environmental improvement and implement sustainable changes across our campus. He shared insights from other schools that have been on a similar journey, in Kenya and globally. Our students left the session buzzing with ideas to reduce waste, save energy, and boost biodiversity.

Across the course of next year, The Green Team’s efforts will contribute towards the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. This internationally recognised certification celebrates schools that make a true, measurable commitment to protecting our planet. To get us there, Mr. Wandabi and the Green Team will be following the Eco-Schools Seven Steps Framework. Here is the roadmap our 13 eco-warriors will be leading us through:

Step 1: Eco-Committee – Formed and ready! Our 13 students are the driving force.

Step 2: Environmental Review – A student-led audit to find out what we’re doing well and where we can improve.

Step 3: Action Plan – Designing a clear, manageable roadmap of eco-projects for the year.

Step 4: Curriculum Links – Bringing our environmental actions into the classroom so everyone learns the "why" behind the "what".

Step 5: Informing and Involving – Sharing insights with the entire school, parents, and the wider community to get others involved in our green initiatives.

Step 6: Monitoring and Evaluation – Measuring our progress (and celebrating our wins!) to ensure our changes are truly sustainable.

Step 7: Eco-Code – Creating a unique, school-wide call to action or mission statement that encapsulates our commitment to the Earth.

It was refreshing to hear the ideas from the team who are clearly ready to make our school more sustainable than it is today. Onwards!
