Helping Hands in EYFS

25th March 2022

The children in FS2 began their week with a visit from the Year 8s who came to read to them. It was lovely to see our older students with their reading buddies choosing their favourite books from the class libraries. The Reading Buddies scheme allows beginner readers to hear what being fluent sounds like as they have a peer model demonstrating for them whilst the older children develop social and emotional skills like patience and empathy as they work with their little buddies.

We have also had parental involvement this week with some parents offering to come in and do some reading, arts and crafts, baking and even some professional talks… Everyone in Early Years is very excited by the prospect of more parent volunteers in the coming weeks as COVID protocols have relaxed, making it easier for us to have visitors to the school.

This week our theme has been Easter and if you happen to have walked through EYFS this week, you would have probably spotted Easter eggs in all different colours, sizes and designs (not forgetting Easter bunnies and carrots of course!). The children have also learnt some of the different cultural and religious beliefs and traditions around Easter.
