During the first few weeks of school, English and art classes across the school have read the book Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. This book, originally written for Oliver’s newborn son, helps students to make sense of the world and their place in it. Students have used the book as a basis for discussions, art and writing. This has been a lovely way to ease students back into school and to get them talking about this interesting place and time in their lives as we reconnect as a school.
Years 6, 7 and 8 have been writing poems to share their feelings about topics they are passionate about, including the environment, animals and how all people are connected. I have linked in the annual COBIS poetry competition (the theme this year is ‘connection’) and we will submit six student poems to the competition.
Here are some photos of students writing and a few of their drafted poems.
