Throughout this term, children from across the school have been developing their Rugby and Netball skills, not only during lessons and Wednesday clubs but, for the highly committed members of the U13 and U11 teams, during lunchtimes as well in preparation for their upcoming tournaments.
Rugby and Netball are both invasion games which, in sporting terms, refers to any sport where the aim is to invade your opponents territory, with the added bonus of scoring points if you manage to secure a goal. For even the youngest of our Primary children, the benefits of these games are multi-faceted; covering, but not limited to: teamwork, strategy, strength, coordination and focus.
In Rugby, children learn various different passing techniques as well as their technical names. Can any parent readers tell us what a spin, pass or pop-pass are? Another large focus for all ages, is on the safety of themselves and others, particularly as the older students learn how to tackle their opponents safely.
In Netball, children are also developing a range of passing techniques, as well as developing their communication and teamwork skills as they learn to navigate the court and the rules around who can travel between each section.
