This week we chaired our first Student Council meeting, over a working lunch. It was lovely to properly meet the new representatives from each year group. Before the meeting they had discussions with their classes and brought with them six suggestions to discuss. Already some common themes have started to arise. After discussing with the junior leadership team we will now propose selected items to the senior leadership team and see if we can get any granted!
We interviewed our new reps to find out more about what they want to achieve in their new roles:
Logan said: 'I wanted to be student council rep so that I can increase the number of sports tournaments that we have!'
This year Mary’s main aim is to make the school a friendlier place and increase everyone's environmental awareness.
On Ettie’s agenda is to finally build the school a swimming pool that's warm and that the children can walk to.
Augustine said: 'I love listening to and sharing ideas.'
Jayden’s main goal he wants to achieve is for the student council to buy year 1 a slide for their play area!
Tiki said: 'I persuaded my class to vote for me to be their student council rep as I said I would improve the atmosphere of the school and increase the amount of sports that we do!'
Callum’s campaign speech centred on increasing the length of play times and adding even more extra fun events to the calendar.
What great ideas and persuasive people we have ready and raring to increase the volume of student voice at BNIS! We are already looking forward to chairing our next meeting and driving change!
