Nine members of Master Benson's weekly Tae Kwondo lessons were kindlly supported by their parents to attend a tournament at Hillcrest International School on Saturday 8th February. Eight schools in total took part in the tournament with every contender earning points for their team's overall score. The largest team contained around 30 children; BNIS's team of nine was the smallest present.
All children competed in different categories which were organised based on age, weight and height, and were judged by members of the Nairobi Tae Kwondo Association. Every member of the BNIS team returned home with a medal and the school placed second overall in the competition - a stupendous feat!
Our most experienced contender - Kubi, a 3rd Red Belt holder - outshined his opponents during the preliminary rounds to reach the finals where he had to face a very tough match against a child from Crawford. He employed a skilled approach to outshine him and gained himself a gold medal!
Well done, to all the children who took part and were delighted to gain a medal and we look forward to receiving the 2nd place trophy soon.
