Children in Year 7 and 8 have been working hard on creating an autobiography with some fantastic results.
We have been using the true story of William Kamkwaba, a schoolboy from Malawi, who tells of his struggles with farming and famine. From a child who begins life being easily led and believing in magic and tales of superhuman strength, to a teenage boy who saves his village with science, The Boy who Harnessed the Wind is a fantastic story that has captivated the children.
Drawing upon experiences from their past, the children thought carefully about how they could retell the stories of their lives in a fun and engaging way. They skilfully moved away from simply regurgitating every single detail about their life to date and, instead, focused on one single event that they could bring to life through expert use of a variety of sentence structures, adverbial phrases and a focus on making a connection with the reader.
