Land Ahoy

16th September 2022

‘Ahoy, me hearties’. Year 3 have dived straight into their theme of pirates. They have discovered lots of facts for example; each pirate ship had a different themed Jolly Roger depending on their captain’s choice, every pirate ship had their own rules and codes. Some of the different rules and codes included; ‘he shall have the best pistol that sees a sail first’, ‘loot will be equally divided amongst the pirates’ and ‘everyone must obey orders’.

In line with our theme, the children have designed and created their own collage models of an island during their Art lesson. They first started by sketching how they wanted their island to look. Then they moved their initial plans to a piece of paper where they outlined their sea, land, some added palm trees amongst other details.

Then came the messy bit… the children used PVA glue to stick sand to represent their land. They used the medium of collage for the sky and sea. Some children decided to add more details like clouds and the sun to their creations. After tweaking and perfecting the final details, they were very pleased with the final islands. We are looking forward to setting sail again and continuing our pirate adventure.
