As part of our learning about holidays and choosing travel destinations, our Year 3 children went on an exciting overnight trip to Nairobi. The aim was to give them a real-life experience of planning and enjoying a holiday that included culture, history, and lots of fun.
We left for Nairobi on Monday morning, full of energy and excitement. Our first stop was the Kenya National Museum. There, the children explored galleries about mammals, Kenyan history and independence, life stages, and Asian African heritage. One of the highlights was seeing how Kenya’s money has changed over time, from cowrie shells to the coins and notes we use today. It was a great way to connect what we’ve learned in class with the real world.
Next, we travelled to Paradise Lost for more adventure in nature. After settling in, the children headed straight to the playground, laughing and playing together. That evening, we gathered around a bonfire, dressed in our pyjamas. We shared stories, played games, ate dinner, and roasted marshmallows before heading to bed in our tents.
The next day started with a good breakfast before we split into groups for two exciting activities; boat riding and ziplining. The zipline, which went across a dam to a small island and back, was a favourite for many. There was plenty of cheering and laughter.
Later, we hiked to the Mau Mau caves and saw a beautiful waterfall. We also learned about the history of the area. Our final activity was archery, where some of us discovered we were pretty good at hitting the target.
After lunch, we made our way back to Nanyuki, tired but very happy. The trip was not only fun but also a great way to finish the school year. The children showed teamwork, curiosity, and bravery throughout the adventure.
