Learning Through Poems

This week in Year 1, children have been having fun playing with words through poetry: in History, they worked together as a class to create a poem all about a Shopping Delivery List; in Science, they looked at the poem “Happiness” by A A Milne and talked about the waterproof boots, hats and macintosh before delving into some exciting experiments in order to decipher which materials are and aren’t waterproof.

In English, Dinosaur poems have by far been the highlight of everyone’s week… children have even begun to act them out, adding percussion to make them incredibly exciting and engaging. Children have hunted for rhyming words in Dinosaur Swamps and have mind mapped different words to describe dinosaurs using their five senses.
