Lights, Props, Action

8th May 2025

On Saturday 3rd May, six students took part in the inaugural IAPS Drama festival held at St Andrew's Turi.

The weekend was set up as a workshop, with the children from each school forming separate groups. Friday afternoon was team building, with various activities meant to make each child familiar with their group members and form communication skills.

Three themes were set out for the performances: 'The Secret Door', 'The Day When Everything Went Backwards' and 'Dream Big'. Each group had to choose a theme and plan their performance around it.

On Saturday, the morning was spent fleshing out the plans outlined by each group, using props. In the afternoon, a series of workshops helped the children to properly shape and prepare their presentations. These workshops were particularly useful as they strengthened the use of character creation, appropriate use of props and familiarity with the stage. The final presentations were made to the rest of the prep school and a few parents, on Saturday evening.

The event ended with a special dinner to congratulate all the children for their hard work. It was particularly heartwarming to see the transformation in our children, who came away from this event with more confidence in their presentation and improvisation skills.
