Linking Together

7th October 2022

On the 30th August, the Year 7s and 8s visited Mount Kenya Academy to share and celebrate their learning in Music, Art and Coding. Upon arrival, the children from both school were eager to get to know each other and it was impressive to see how fast they made friends.

After being welcomed by the teachers and pupils, we set up a pop-up Art Exhibition with work we had brought with us from BNIS to showcase out talents. Some of the Art work we proudly displayed included: watercolour City, feather painting, crochet work, collage, pencil work and sculptures.

The next activity was the MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA, it was a stupendous activity for all involved. Both schools had an amazing time singing, dancing and playing musical instruments. It was amazing to see how confidently the children performed on stage. It is safe to say they brought the house down! The BNIS performance of a song they had learnt linked to their History work, was so powerful that our children were asked to teach their new friends and they performed it together.

The coding session was interesting as our children were engaged in the use of Scratch and they did us proud! They were excited to learn about robotics from their counterparts and will be keen to put their learning to use soon.

After the lunch break they returned to take part in balloon painting. This was the highlight of the day for them. Children were given balloons filled with water and colour; they threw them downwards from a raised area down onto plain white sheets. They had fun throwing them from up high and the outcomes were beautiful abstract paintings made by all of the children together. It was an extraordinary experience for them and the pieces were out of this world.

Overall it was a great educational day building our links in the community. Our children came away have learnt a range of new skills and having extended their social skills beyond the realm of our BNIS.
