This week the FS1 children focused on developing their language and vocabulary through listening.
They explored various fun-filled experiences like listening to stories, rhyme games, singing and hands-on activities; this helped them awaken their curiosity and enjoy playtime more as they acquired better language and communications skills. The children were able to talk about the importance of listening keenly and even made their own listening ears.
Children listened to the story of the BFG, who could hear the tiniest sounds of insects like ladybugs walking on leaves. They later went for a listening walk and were able to hear different sounds from all over our school environment, starting in the pet area to hear some animal sounds - everyone was fascinated by the turkey’s gobbles! They then proceeded to the primary school, where they were excited to hear different sounds from teachers teaching, pupils talking in classes and birds chirping in the compound as well as buses and motorbike sounds from outside.
As part of practicing their listening skills, the whole of Early Years also became an audience on Friday afternoon, as the Year 5 and 6's treated them to a medley of songs from their recent production of SuperSal. Early Years excelled themselves, sitting quietly fully entranced by the live singing and dancing in front of them.
Through these activities, the children have become more confident and forged stronger friendships.
