Little Farmers

9th September 2021

FS1 have had a great time since coming back to school - everyone has loved the new play equipment and it has led to endless fun!

After taking the time to get to know each other, teachers were able to take the children’s fascination in farm animals and have shaped their learning opportunities around this. Both classes have been excited to explore and learn about different animals and the various sounds they make through various animal stories and songs.

Children have been practising counting different animals and have even been doing some scientific investigations, counting the number of legs that different animals have… some have four legs, but some have two legs, just like us!

It’s not all maths and science, though; the children have had great fun exploring this theme through art. Using a range of different materials, they created cotton ball sheep, feathery chickens and origami dogs.

What better way to top off all this farmyard fun than with some Show and Tell? Children got to share their favourite animals with all their friends, which certainly got everyone talking. Next week, FS1 will be going out on their very first field trip to visit some of these animals in real life - what a great way for the children to share their new knowledge with experts outside of school!
