Maamukuzi

14th September 2023

In Year 1, our young learners have embarked on a captivating linguistic journey, delving into the Swahili term 'Maamukuzi,' which translates to 'Greetings.' The melodies of their sing-along experience have echoed through the school.

With eager hearts and wide-eyed wonder, the children set out on an exhilarating exploration, navigating the corridors of our school while honing their newly acquired linguistic treasures. Phrases such as 'Hujambo - Sijambo,' 'Shikamoo - Marahaba,' 'Habari za asubuhi - Njema,' and the gracious 'Asante' adorned their conversational palette.

They learnt 'Habari za asubuhi,' and in response, the world enveloped them with the warm embrace of 'Njema.' With the sun's ascent, 'Hujambo' became their harmonious refrain, a melody of greeting that infused every encounter. The values of respect and reverence came alive as 'Shikamoo' elegantly danced off their lips, met with the gracious reply, 'Marahaba.'

Radiating with infectious enthusiasm, the children extended their new found linguistic prowess greeting: guests, teachers, the esteemed Mrs. Gould, and even themselves with exuberance. It was a jubilant way to commence the term, as they actively applied what they had learned in the classroom.

The future holds the promise of greater fluency in the Swahili language, a thread that will weave through the fabric of our school's multicultural tapestry. As echoes of their cheerful greetings continue to reverberate, we eagerly anticipate the ongoing journey of linguistic discovery, fostering a deeper connection to the rich diversity of our world.

The seeds of communication have been sown, and we await the flourishing of linguistic blooms, nurturing not only language proficiency but also cultural appreciation and global understanding.
