Magic of Water

7th October 2022

Swimming lessons at BNIS help children explore the ‘’magic of water’’. From the splashing motion of flutter kicks to the smooth movement of a glide, water exploration has never been more exhilarating! Water confidence is the theme this term, with keen focus on being comfortable in the water. Being outside the normal comfort zone of dry-land, swimming lessons encourage a swimmer to push themselves beyond the challenge of the new experience of moving in water. In addition to relaxation and muscular benefits, proficiency in the swimming strokes gives children an advantage in skill and safety when moving in water. Whether it is water play in Early Years Foundations Stage, flutter kicks in Key Stage 1 or the full freestyle stroke in Key Stage 2 & 3, children are guided to feeling confident in water and encouraged to grow and develop in their skill.

In Early Years, safe water entry and exit, dipping your head in the water and blowing bubbles in the water have been the main focus of the lessons. The children enjoy the feeling of water on their faces and this is a step towards them being comfortable enough to fully submerging in the water. Key Stage 1 have been exploring and learning about the freestyle stroke and working on perfecting their pulls, kicks and breathing technique. While Key Stage 3 have been focusing on various hydrodynamic skills like turns, glides and diving.

For the swimmers who aim for the competitive level, the swim team trains twice a week, building on their endurance, speed and technique through individualised and group training that ensures that they are at their best level for swimming events.

Whatever the swimming need or level, BNIS ensures that they are all met. Let’s keep swimming!
