Rube Goldberg was a boy who dreamt of becoming an artist! Though as a young man he studied Engineering at university, the dream to become an artist always remained with him. A few years after graduating from university, he found a job as a newspaper cartoon artist in New York. Using his knowledge of machinery from his university studies and his love of cartoons, Mr. Goldberg became famous for drawing art depicting complex machinery used to perform simple tasks. He often satirised the oddities of his time in this way.
We have been looking at musical instruments inspired by the work of Mr. Goldberg in some of our music classes and even designed some of our own instruments. It has been exciting!

Some classes have begun learning the basics of note reading and playing on both keyboard and recorder. We have covered three notes with the simple piece, Mary Had a Little Lamb. We plan to cover pieces with up to five notes in the coming weeks!
The Performing Arts Department began this term by exploring the theme of love through a work of Shakespeare - his famous play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’! It is a tale of four lovers, lost in the woods, who fall prey to the trickery of mischief-loving fairies. Come and find out how the story unfolds as the Year 7 and 8’s perform to the school and parents next week!
BNIS voices also began the term with a bang! Perfecting their version of the popular song ‘Roar’ by Katie Perry in readiness for a performance next week.
