Mail Carriers

25th May 2023

Inspired by their work based around the book 'Meerkat Mail' The Year 1 children were lucky to go on a guided tour of Nanyuki Post Office. The children had worked hard hand writing beautiful letters to be sent to a Year 1 child at Braeburn Kisumu. They grabbed their letters ready to post when they got to the Post Office at the end of March.

The children received a warm welcome and were provided with valuable insights on how to weigh letters, acquire stamps, and send mail. They were also introduced to the diverse codes assigned to different counties.

Year 1 took the learning opportunities in their stride. As their imaginations transported them to a time when people heavily relied on letters without the convenience of the internet and phones, they collectively acknowledged the fortunate position we find ourselves in today, blessed with advanced technology readily available at our fingertips meaning that we no longer need to write out every message we want to send and traipse down to the post office. What a time to be alive!

To their delight this week a special delivery arrived at BNIS! A letter addressed to every child, in year 1... a response to the letter they had sent last month! The excitement was palpable as the letters were handed out and the children were eager to rip open their brown envelopes and read what their pen pals had written. They are now busy thinking of their replies in order to continue the cross-country, inter-Braeburn friendships!
