Marble Run

On Friday, June 23rd, the Year 8 class presented their Science Roller Coaster project, called 'The Marble Run', at the Science Fayre exhibition in Nairobi at BGR. Our Year 8 children got to showcase their understanding of 'Energy Stores and Transfers'. This opportunity allowed the children to learn from their fellow KS3 students from other KAIS schools who presented projects related to their own science units.

Their project focussed on demonstrating the conversion of gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy, with the potential for further conversion into other energy stores. The exhibition was a tremendous success, with a constant flow of visitors to their stand - Go Year 8s! The students enthusiastically explained the concepts behind their project to the interested attendees. Our students then had a chance to explore and learn from the projects put together by their peers. These included projects on harnessing wind and solar energies, water desalination, ping pong, soap chemistry, cabbage indicator, electric vehicles, and ice melting.

Our students took advantage of the event to socialise and forge connections with students from participating schools, including Braeburn Garden Estate, Brookhouse Karen, Brookhouse Runda, Braeburn Gitanga Road, Premier and Aga Khan. It was an enriching experience for all involved, building friendships and collaborating with other students. Once the Year 8s had returned to BNIS, they put their project on display in their classroom, giving the rest of the year groups an opportunity to come and see their Marble Run project and learn about the energy conversion that takes place. The other year groups were very impressed and desperate to have a go!
