On Friday, Braeburn Nanyuki came alive with music, energy, and a love for numbers as we celebrated Maths Rock Stars Day! Across the school, pupils and staff alike dressed up as rock stars to honour our favourite maths tool — Times Tables Rock Stars — which helps us master our multiplication facts in a fun and engaging way.

The day began with a whole-school assembly that truly set the tone. Several staff members entertained everyone with a rock rendition of “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, filling the theatre with excitement and laughter. We then celebrated our top mathematicians who had shown exceptional effort on Century Tech, recognising those who had completed the most maths “nuggets” and spent the most time improving their skills on the platform.

We also recognised our ‘Maths MVP’ - Elliot from Year 4 - who took part in the online Mental Maths World Cup back in July and made it to the Grand Final in early September where he placed in 5th place overall for Kenya - what an achievement!
Next came a thrilling game of whole-school Times Table Bingo, where numbers were called out and cheers erupted as players checked off their boards. The theatre was buzzing with noise, celebration, and the sound of hundreds of young rock stars enjoying themselves.
To close the assembly, the staff rock band returned to the stage with a fantastic performance of “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar, leaving everyone inspired to keep rocking their maths learning.
The celebrations continued throughout the day in classrooms, as pupils took part in maths-themed challenges and activities. It was a brilliant day of fun, laughter, and learning — and we’re ready to keep being Maths Rock Stars all year long!
