This term, our Year 2 pupils have been busy exploring multiplication and division. They learned about equal and unequal groups, using hands-on activities like drawing circles on the floor and placing pebbles to represent groups. By counting in twos, fives, and tens, using repeated addition, and working with multiplication expressions, they built a strong foundation in these important skills. They also tackled number problems using manipulatives, showing great enthusiasm and growing confidence in their work.
Alongside maths, the children focused on healthy eating. They conducted a survey to find out how many classmates eat their 5-a-day and analysed the data to see the most and least popular fruits and vegetables.
To bring their learning to life, they visited AAA Growers Farm, where they saw where fresh food comes from. Walking through vast fields, they explored herbs like mint, parsley, and coriander, and vegetables like spinach, onions, and broccoli. The highlight was the strawberry greenhouse, where they watched strawberries being picked, packed, and even got to taste some delicious, ripe ones.
The adventure continued at Chandarana Shopping Mall, where they applied their learning in a real-world setting. They carefully selected fresh produce, considering value for money while reinforcing their understanding of healthy food choices.
This term has been a fantastic blend of maths and healthy eating, making learning fun and meaningful. Year 2 pupils have not only improved their maths skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for making healthy food choices. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and hard work!
