Maths Mission

22nd March 2025

The BNIS Maths Lead, Ms Akinyi, had the privilege of taking Kaila (Year 6) and Liam (Year 7) to Brookhouse Runda for the annual KAIS (Kenyan Association of International Schools) Mental Maths Challenge on Friday 14th March.

The dream duo competed against students from eight schools; the questions and time limites were undoubtedly tough and challenging, but our young mathematicians persevered. Kaila answered all of her questions correctly and Liam answered almost all of his correctly. The competition was structured with rounds increasing in difficulty, allowing only 5 seconds for the first set of questions, then 10, then 15 and 20 seconds. Despite the pressure, the two champions gave it their all whilst Ms Akinyi watched from the sidelines with knots in her stomach due to the tension!

BNIS triumphed overall with an impressive third place position out of the eight teams and Kaila brought home second place in her age group after a nail-biting tie-breaker due to a tied result for first place. The children were elated with their achievement and Ms Akinyi still cannot stop smiling!
